Athlete’s foot is a fungal condition that can be treated successfully using herbal medicines alongside strict hygiene and dietary measures. Persistence in treatment is required to achieve lasting results. As with any fungal infection, strict hygiene measures are essential to gain control of Athlete’s Foot. This is a condition that thrives on warm, moist skin so it is important to keep your feet fresh and dry to make the micro-environment less attractive and thus discourage the organisms. Wash all your socks at a high temperature and change the insoles in all your footwear. If you can, clean the inside of your footwear and rub the linings with Tea-tree Essential Oil to help reduce the possibility of re-infection. Wear cotton socks and leather or canvas shoes and alternate your shoes day to day, taking off your shoes and socks as soon as you get home. Talcum powder tends to create lots of little abrasions that give the fungus places to hide so is best avoided. Dietary changes are vital in combating Athlete’s Foot and we recommend that you cut out alcohol and all sugar (including processed carbohydrates: biscuits, cakes, sweets and sugary drinks) during the treatment period.
A herbalist will be able to advise on which herbs and products to use.
