Base Oils

Scroll down to see remedies»

Base oils, or fixed oils, do not readily react with air. This is in contrast to essential oils which react very quickly and hence rapidly find their way to our noses. Fixed oils are used for culinary purposes (for frying or in salad dressings etc); for cosmetic purposes (as surface skin moisturisers and conditioners etc); and as carriers for essential oils. Each fixed oil has a specialised use, for example Almond oil has been proven as an excellent skin and nail strengthener, whereas Wheatgerm oil helps to breakdown scar tissue and stretch marks. St John's Wort oil contains nerve-healing properties that are useful for improving nerve damage, such as may occur in shingles or due to surgery etc. Grape Seed oil is an excellent cost-effective, light-weight oil that is easily absorbed into the skin, this makes it a very suitable carrier for essential oils in aromatherapy massage because it facilitates absorption of the essential oils.
