Also known as lateral epicondylitis, Tennis Elbow involves inflammation of the tendons in the lower arm that are involved with grip and twisting movements such as backhand returns in tennis or use of a manual screwdriver. It is caused by overstressing the insertion point of the forearm muscles.
In Tennis Elbow, as with any soft tissue injury, it is essential initially to rest the joint. Apply a warm compress such as a hot-water bottle or a warmed wheat bag to the area for as long as possible. Alternating warm and cold compresses can also be of use. Use Chilli & Comfrey Cream to aid the healing process. Once normal function has been restored apply our Warming Muscle Gel to the potential problem area half an hour before you intend to begin the activity concerned.
Paul Hambly has continuing success in treating muscular problems of this nature using acupuncture – see our Clinic section for more on Acupuncture.
