Herb Notes: Rose

Originating from the Middle East where it has been cultivated for at least the past 3000 years, the Rose has a long history of use as a decorative garden plant, as a medicine, and as a source of fragrance for food flavourings and cosmetics. For medicinal purposes it is both the cultivated Apothecary's Rose and the wild Dog Rose which are harvested. Underused in modern times, Rose is today making something of a comeback in Herbal Medicine and at Hamblys we have recently incorporated it into several new products. Possessing high levels of anti-oxidant vitamins as well as anti-inflammatory tannins, topical applications of Rose water, Rosehip Oil or Rose Essential Oil make a wonderful treatment for a range of skin conditions including Acne Rosacea, thread veins and sunburn. The flower's calming, uplifting action on the nervous system yields additional benefits too. It's certainly no mistake that the cosmetics industry use Rose extracts so widely!
