Most people suffer with bumps and bruises throughout their life. The purple/green colouring on the skin is due to blood that has leaked out of the damaged area and has started to breakdown. Immediately after an injury a cold pack should be applied for about 15 minutes, after which the area should be kept warm. If you have a bruise that does not change colour and fade with time then it is likely you are still bleeding under the skin and it is recommended that you seek professional advice. For people prone to bruising, incorporating Buckwheat and dark-coloured fruits such as Bilberries and Blackberries into the daily diet can be very beneficial. NB Recurrent or extensive bruising can, in some cases, be a sign of serious pathology and requires professional investigation.
