Haemorrhoids (Piles) can be the result of constipation, straining at the toilet, liver congestion, or pregnancy and labour. A few simple remedies can quickly provide relief for a range of symptoms.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables – the soluble fibre they contain will lessen the possibility of constipation. Blue and black fruits, like plums, blackcurrants and cherries, are rich in bioflavonoids, which help to improve the strength of blood vessel walls, as does Buckwheat.
Avoid sitting down for long periods, as this will encourage blood to pool in the pelvic area. Pelvic floor exercises can be most helpful. Lower back problems may result in tightness in the pelvic muscles which may in turn lead to piles. Cases such as this usually respond well to acupuncture.
Seek professional help if the piles start to bleed heavily or if the condition doesn’t improve with self-help measures. If you have recently developed haemorrhoids and are not pregnant then you should seek professional advice. Liver and heart disease can both be a cause.
