Acid reflux is a common condition that can be successfully controlled using herbal medicines. You may have a weakened sphincter muscle at the top of your stomach that is allowing normal stomach acid to pass up into your oesophagus. This can happen if you drink a lot of coffee, have a high fat diet, smoke, are pregnant, overweight or do a lot of heavy lifting. There are several things you may be doing that could be causing your acid indigestion. If you eat a lot of mustard or horseradish, drink a lot of grapefruit juice or take aspirin or vitamin C supplements on an empty stomach, you could be causing your stomach to become mildly inflamed. In such cases stopping the offending substance, (ginger and chilli do not irritate the stomach in the same way as mustard oils do) will make a considerable difference. Note also that some medication can also cause irritation to the stomach as an unwanted side effect. If you can, take your medication with a meal or try any of the above remedies.
